Salis (1884-1967), was a characteristic
figure of the port of Chania, a black
boatman of African descent, a hero
of his time, a smiling protector of the
poor and weak. The owners of “Salis”
restaurant decided to honor him and
gave his name to their restaurant. Here
one finds the most creative version of
traditional Cretan gastronomy, with
dishes prepared using the purest raw
materials, all supplied by local producers,
exploiting the flavors that only Crete can
offer. Try the smoked octopus with fish
roe and avocado, pigweed and pickles,
or the veal cheeks with gratin dophinoise
potatoes and mashed eggplant, as well
as the pancetta with mashed cauliflower,
pleurotus mushrooms and handmade
potato chips. Dine by the calm sea and
enjoy the high quality wine –more than
300 labels are available– or the beer
supplied by small Greek breweries.
