νάσετε μια καλή ιδέα είναι να επιστρέψετε
προς το λιμάνι, για να δοκιμάσετε τα πε-
ρίφημα θαλασσινά της περιοχής.
Το ιστορικό κέντρο είναι παράδει-
σος για τους εραστές των γκουρμέ. Εδώ
θα βρείτε πεντανόστιμα τυριά, όπως το
Pecorino di Fossa, μοναδικά αλλαντικά,
όπως το Ciauscolo, και τα εξαιρετικά κρα-
σιά του Marche. Η πιο γνωστή ποικιλία
είναι το κόκκινο Rosso Conero, ενώ εξίσου
γλυκόπιοτο είναι το Verdicchio, λευκός
ξηρός οίνος με άρωμα πικραμύγδαλου.
Η Ανκόνα δεν ξενυχτά. Εδώ το καθιε-

Το Μόντε Κόνερο δικαιούται να υπερη-
φανεύεται για πολλά: είναι το μοναδικό
βουνό της ιταλικής ακτής της Αδριατικής,
από την Τεργέστη μέχρι το Γκάργκανο
στα νοτιοανατολικά της χώρας, ενώ δια-
θέτει εκπληκτική φυσική ομορφιά, εναλ-
λαγές τοπίου και πλούσιο οικοσύστημα.
Το Parco del Conero, που απλώνεται από
τη θάλασσα μέχρι τη λοφοσκέπαστη εν-
δοχώρα, περιλαμβάνει πεζοπορικές δια-
δρομές μέσα από δάση βελανιδιάς και
πεύκου, καθώς και μικρά ξέφωτα, όπου,

era. A fascinating sight is the Fontana
del Calamo, a famous fountain, made of
stone, marble, and bronze, with 13 faces
of frowning fawns sprouting water.
The historic center is the heaven of
gourmet food lovers; here they will find
delicious cheeses, such as the Pecorino di
Fossa, unique cold cuts like the Ciausco-
lo, and fine Marche wines, most famous
of which are the red Rosso Conero, and
Verdicchio, a dry white wine with bitter
almond flavor.
Ancona sleeps early. Here, the
time-honored “aperitivo” occurs earlier,
at 6.30 p.m. and most bars are empty af-
ter 10 p.m. If you are looking for fun, go
to the discos in Rimini (by train), or at
nearby Senigallia.
Conero Riviera
A vast beach
Monte Conero is the unique mountain in
Southeast Italy, on the Adriatic Sea shore,
from Trieste to Gargano; it has fantastic
natural beauty and a rich ecosystem. The
Parco del Conero spreads from the sea up
to the inland hills, with trekking routes
crossing oak tree and pine tree forests,

touch the exhibits.
Ancona’s historic center begins a few
meters far from the port. Stop at the usual
meeting spot of the locals, the Piazza del
Plebiscito; surrounded by stylish cafés,
restaurants and gelaterias, it accommo-
dates the renowned Chiesa di San Do-
menico, a baroque church in which there
are two painting masterpieces: Titian’s
Crucifixion (1558) and the Annunciation
by Guercino (1662).
Ancona’s most famous church, the Du-
omo di Ancona or Basillica di San Ciria-
co, stands on Guasco Hill fromwhere one
can admire the port and the Adriatic Sea.
Visit the Archaeological Museum in the
magnificent Palazzo Ferretti and admire
rare exhibits of prehistoric Greek, Etrus-
can, Roman – even Celtic – art, and the
